Why did you take the pulley off? It may be on backwards, turn it around and see what happens! I may be mistaken, but there should only be one washer, on the outside of the pulley.

I'm not getting these 4 washers.. there's nothing to do with washers on the alternator, nor a pulley...

first, pull your alternator belt back off and try to turn the alternator.. if it's frozen, then there's your problem.
the alternator belt should go around the crank pulley and the alternator only. If you're trying to run it around a tensioner pulley, you're knocking it way off angle, which will cause it to squeal, smoke, and probably snap the belt- if it doesn't just jump off track..

You need a Chiltons book! Check out www.4DSC.com on how to properly change the belts! There are adjusters on every idler pulley so you don't have to take them off. The long belt you are refering to is the P/S-watepump belt. It goes on FIRST, then the alternator belt, then the A/C belt. Print out the article, take eveything apart, put the pulley's back where they belong( There sould only be 1 washer on the OUTSIDE of each pulley), and then put the belts on in the proper order. Good Luck!

Ha! I dropped a pulley last night and figured out the "four washers thing"! Btw: Here's the alternator replacement link: http://www.4dsc.com/articles/drivetr...lacement.shtml It's for a VG, but it should be the same. Someone slap me if I'm wrong!
