K&N cone installed

I got my K&N cone installed today. I ended up getting the adaptor because it was $20 and I figured it'd take me that with time to make my own, not to mention, this one is designed to work properly in the first place. It's a nice cone, about 6 inches long, maybe a bit longer, with a 3" flange.

The filter works great. While I was at it, I also removed the resonator. I had to completely remove the air box, including the bottom, for space, however was able to leave the air tube that goes to the front of the engine bay. I don't know if this will make any difference, probably not, but there was room so I figured I'd leave it. It sounds awesome! Quite a bit deeper than before, especially inside the car. I've yet to do any high rpm runs, hopefully tomorrow we'll see how that goes. As for increased performance, I can't tell as of yet, but the paper filter in the airbox was pretty dirty, therefore most increase I expect to come from the fact that the filter is now clean.

I don't know what adaptor I have, it came in a generic looking white box, and it's a universal adaptor for all nissans. I'm actually not completely satisfied with how it fits the MAF, in that it has to be turned at a slight angle to line up the holes. If I redrilled the holes however, it will line up perfectly. For now, it's held in with two screws, so we'll see how that works. It looks like aluminum, and it's certainly stronger than anything I could have cobbled together. The filter itself is RC-4290. I'll take some pics soon, when I'm taking pics of the rest of the car.

I know what you mean about the growl, it sounds great. Not to mention the suction sound from the intake vacuum when you hit the gas. It makes a nice sound while idling too, almost like a faint hum or whine, must just be the air flow. I can't wait for a higher rpm run. Since I got the car, I've felt like I wanted it to make a bit more sound, and I think I'm getting pretty close to what I want. My first instinct was to replace the muffler with something less restrictive, however after learning that a high flow muffler, without a better y pipe, b pipe, cat and whatnot, will basically be a glorified noise maker, the cost of it didn't make sense. Now, with just the cone and intake resonator, I've got a nice growl that might be close to what I want, so I'm happy with that. I don't want the car to be too loud, it's a daily driver, sometimes a highway driver, and overly loud exhaust gets tiring after a while, yes, even with a loud stereo that will drown it out.

There was a link in the www.maxima.org Links section where you could buy a maxima MAF adaptor for <$20. Unfortunately they took the links down.

It's making a good seal. I put the seal that was in between the MAF and airbox back in place, and made sure the MAF adaptor was centred with the MAF before tightening it. It's just that I'd like it to be even with the edges of the MAF, it'd look less ghetto.

For now though, my week is getting a little crazy, so I probably won't get any pics or more work done on this for a couple days. I'll keep you posted.
