What do you put your's in?

A/T, comfort, or power? does power really burn gas quicker? does comfort make it more efficient? which one is the best to put it in?

i usually ride with it in the A/T mode, but when i feel frisky i'll put it on the power setting, it feels like it is easier to pass someone on the highway like that!

if i remember correctly, matt blehm did a little writeup explaing the true functionality of the switch.

its been a while since i read it, but i believe the final word was to leave it on Power mode. leaving it on power will cause the engine to shift at higher rpms across all gears. shifting at higher gears allowed for better engine efficiency and therefore better performace (and quite possibly better gas mileage? i could be wrong about that one)

either way, it really doesnt make all that much of a difference since the computer will adjust the transmission shift points depending on how hard you hit the throttle.

It just changes the shift point RPM. In power mode, the engine shifts at a higher RPM, and when it's in comfort it shifts lower. It automatically goes into power mode whenever you go WOT.

i may be wrong bc i dont know much, but if the engine hits higher rpms...then wouldn't that mean that its working more, and therefore it's using more gas?

that would make sense, if you're concerned about gas mileage, just regulate the way you drive because the switch will not make a big difference at all.

Not exactly. in power mode it shifts at higher rpms, which will in turn let the next gear work easier i.e. More effiecent. if it shifts at a lower rpm then a lot more strain is needed to move the car.

ex. Try taking off from a complete stop in 3rd gear, it is alot harder than 1st gear because 3rd is designed to work at higher speeds.

true, however there is another factor, load. Say you have less of a load on the engine, however it is running at a higher RPM, you could still be using less gas than an engine with a larger load running at a lower RPM.

(I resisted typing RPM's for Mike and Randy )

so i can just leave it in power, but not push the car, and ill have about the same gas mileage as any other time, correct? so its just when i like floor it or push the car is when i will be burning a whole bunch of gas...

and VASHtheSTAMPEDE, what do you mean?

if you accelerate, say, staying under 3000 rpms, I dont think that having the switch at power/comfort will make much of a difference in the gas mileage. You may have to let your foot off the gas when it is in power to get it to shift. In power it just waits longer to shift, so if you go slower, you wont shift as high, but it will shift higher than if you were in normal or comfort. Put it this way, if you want to drive fast and "spirited" then put it in power. If you're concerned with your gas mileage, drive normal and put the switch on normal or comfort.

back when I had an auto I was in the Comfort Crew, methinks nubiannupe is the sole survivor

no mode >or= comfort mode > power mode,

I just leave it in power mode, it shifts smoother than A/T and in the city it helps alot for stop and go driving. The car just feels more "spirited."

leave it in A/T unless you're on the gas 24/7...aka street light drag racing.

it'll go power when you WOT the car..so what difference does it make?

for better mileage use comfort because it shifts sooner and uses a more efficient gear.
However it doesn't respond as quickly to throttle changes then.
If you leave it in automatic mode (middle position) then it will kick into power mode when the pedal is pressed pass the 3/4 travel point and will stay in power until you back off past half.

Just my observations on my max. YMMV

error 404: clutch not found.

I leave mine in the middle too, until my engine starts clacking then I put it on comfort

hmm... i kinda found my max to accelerate faster in "comfort".. it works up the gears faster than in power mode. especially now that i installed the high flow intake, it seems to rev up faster and has less trouble pulling at lower rpms.

1)comfort w o/d on and I get 25% better mpg.
2)power wo o/d and I have to let the gas peddle out before it shift under certain condition. I think in my sohc during part throttle, keeping under 3k, it accelerate best. under condition 1 it seems like I hit 50mph fast and seemlessly, while condition 2 I have more torgue when I call for acceleration.
