CAI How To?
I went ahead and picked up a CAI off of ebay and tried to put it into my car (with no instructions since there was none given), but failed. I need someone to either take a picture of a CAI hook up under the hood of thier car or someone to give me a parts list of what i should have in the kit, just so as i can make sure that the guy gave me all the parts i need cuz i'm not sure if i'm missing anything. I've got a 93 Maxima SE DOHC
Thanks

That is the template you will need to cut the hole in the fenderwell.
Compliments of Portdave and CraigB. I never got around to making one but told Dave where to cut and he made the template from there.
look on my site to see it installed.
Good luck...

1. Put tubes/filter/othercrap in car
2. Drive to Jeffys house
3. Build CAI
4.
5. Give Jeffy spare tubing so he can make one too
6. ????
7. Profit!!!
I've seen that posted a few times this week lol. I think on Matt's the hole was more of an oval (went more towards that existing hole for that wierd resonator thing a ma bob).

I got your pm Phil. Which ebay cai did you buy? Why doesn't it fit? I don't really have a good way to cut a hole in your fenderwell for those ebay CAIs. I suppose you can hack a hole with a 4" grinder with a cut off wheel. I could use a worn out wheel that's like 2.5" now. hehe.

What are you talking about?

i purchased one from liveonspeed; it claimed that it fit a 92-94 maxima SE DOHC, i tried putting the thing on and the tubing i was given doesn't fit at, on top of that there's no real support to the rest of the piping leading to the air filter, so if i install it, it looks like its just gonna hang there.......it's a pretty poor setup if you ask me, i might just junk the part and go with an injen or warpspeed that i'll know for sure will fit.

taking a look at aswm66's CAI, it looks a lot like the one i got. The one question i have to ask is that the piping peice that connects to the intake manifold, was the piping the same diameter as the intake manifold hole, or was it much larger?

I could make you just the piece you want. But it still won't really have support. I use a support piece I got with the JWT pop charger to support maf. I believe alot of guys just let the system hang as the couplers keep it lifted. It would be fairly easy to make a support bracket.

i have one from live on speed also. and i have the 93 ve30de 5speed. it fits fine. however the rubber part that connects to the throttle body was a bit big, just crank down the hose clamp....

the rubber part and the piping is big over the throttle body for mine, and i'm afraid overtightening the part to compensate will cause an air leak
Second thing i wanted to ask was do you take the intake off when it rains since the filter will sit underneath the fenderwell if i have to cut a new hole in the fenderwell in order for it to fit

oh, I didn't realize Phil was local, sweet!
Might want to take Jeff up on his offer. I dont have anything supporting mine but the hose couplers but it really doesn't move. As for the rain, I dont really even think about it. Saturday I did go though a rather big puddle in the road, afterward I was a little worried about the altenator, but aside from that, bah. The inner fender is pretty well inclosed.

yea alright thanks Mr. Gone, i won't need to worry about that part then cuz i was reading injen's disclaimer saying that thier's needed to be taken off during the rain or else water can get into the engine and cause problems. i was contemplating just slipping on the piping over the lip on the throttle body even though its large, but if i put that peice in, i've got some loose hosing that doesn't fit......this is so confusing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

geesh why dont you actually try before you say it doesnt fit LOL.
I have the exact intake as you. The hose coupler is bigger but when you tighten on the coupler it shrinks down perfectly. It doesnt bind or bunch up to cause a leak. It will seal just fine and will not leak. You dont want a pipe the size of the TB or it will reduce the air flow. A step down coupler might be better but trust me when I say it will work perfectly if you just tighten it down. Take a look at mine again and you will see.
That template is for that intake as well.
This intake is the exact design of the Place Racing intake. They look identical.
When modding you have to remember that not everything is going to fit just like you think it will.
Good luck.

I don't get it. Why did you not do more resarch before you bought it. I love mine, it fit perfectly and I have installed two of them. My friends went in perfectly as well. As for the rain, I have not had problems yet and I do not think I ever will.

dont want to be the guy that posts the stuff from ebay and ****es everyone off, but since their in an abundance and its so readily available... Is the CAI you all are refering to?

I was gnna do this mod a while ago, but never got around to it and lost the ebay link, if someone could let me know if this is the right one or not, it would be appreciated.

Yeah basically...I got mine from liveonspeed though. The only thing I see different on that one you listed is that it has a really cheap filter with a screen on then end of it. Do no use that filter if you get it. A screen will not keep dirt and dust out of your engine.
