Remote Starter?

I am going to install a remote starter on my max soon. You know, winter is coming and I dodn't like my skinny a*s out to warm up the engine. I searched for a thread regarding this topic but couldn't find one (I think). I will need just a simple starter not with all the bells and whistles and prolly will install it myself. So, what's your recommendation and is there any write-ups for wiring for a starter? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks much!

Thanks, silverlinekenne! I found the info. If you can, could you kindly write up what you did with your own starter? Just briefly what starter to buy, where to start to install, and which wires to look at and stuff... My max is 89 GXE by the way. I hope starter wiring is pretty much universal. Thanks!

GO *****! (OR, TIGERS!)

Depending on which unit you get some are easier to install than others, even though they all use about the same amount of wires.
and the job should only take about 2 hours to do.
at least my install only took that long initially.
just one tip, LABEL every wire and use a test light to verify everything.

i think 2hrs is an underestimate...at least for someone who might be uncomfortable working with wires and the possibility of screwing something up. I suggest you read the manual over and over, till you're very comfortable. You dont want to have to go back in there later on, so test before soldering the wires...or use quick disconnects / t-taps. I installed a viper unit in mine and it took me about 6 hrs (doing a whole lot of other stuff as well)...plus you want the wiring neat, so don;t rush it.
Btw, as you've probably seen on Craig's page, there's a neutral safety wire, if you're 5-spd...use it

:dunno: a remote start by itself , no alram no keyless, is a fairly straight forward install.
but as I said label all the wires in the kit before you get to the car, it makes things much quicker.
also don't forget that the maxima uses 2 starter wires not 1.
my install took a bit longer becase the color code was wrong on one wire, and I blew a fusible link.
and then I forgot to reconnect the harness.
so it took a bit longer than expected.
and stay away from the bulldog remote start DIY kits they're junk.

shipped on ebay. As far as hooking it up get a wiring layout on your car and then read the manual that comes with the starter and go from their. AS FAR AS
using a test light I would advise that as to it can blow up some **** like an air bag in your face. SO use a multi meter to check and verify your wires.

Hah, yeah, airbag hurts enough on arms, let alone faces.

I never knew there was something that could chafe, burn, AND bruise all at once, while simultaneously poisoning you with chemicals. Good ol' airbag.
