I understand that headers for a 3rd gen are out of the question so the next thing would be a y-pipe followed by a high flow cat and then a catback exhaust (resonator?) and a perfromace/silencer muffler. The main thing I want is quiet as stock and secondly performance. Reason being that I hear some of these civics and accords and would just hate to be in thier cabin, because I do alot of driving including school and work.

I hear ya!

I had a Flowmaster 60 series on my 93 SE and I loved it. I hate those stupid "bee in a can" sounding cars so I wanted something that sounded beefy. The flowmaster 60 series has what they call "Deltaflow" technology which somehow divides the sound waves internally and then crashes them together canceling them out. Results: it gives you a good bassy sound that's not too loud or quiet. It has a cool grunt at the lower RPM's, but as you pick up speed, the sound gradually dimenishes as more air and sound waves enter the muffler. The only problem with this muffler is that it's not stainless steel and you'll need to paint it to avoid rusting. I painted mine before I put it on and it looked good, sounded good and the price wasn't too bad ($90) uninstalled.

well...........

add a Y-pipe, and a complete 2.5" from there back to a stock muffler. The muffler is not all that restrictive, it is a straight through design! Our stock mufflers are a 3 part internal design..
entering exhaust gets into the muffler and is presurized in the first part of the muffler (open space), basicaly a collecting place, then is passed through two inner straight perforated pipes (sound deadining material),
then into the last open part, the same as the first and squeezed out the tips. like this CRUDE drawing.....

may I add...

that the most restrictive part of the exhaust is of course the stock F-pipe, and the cat back piping. Yes 2.5" will have to be narrowed when it reaches the muffler, but the stock muffler gives a reasonable amount of back pressure to keep the Torque up. MOst straight pipe or open mufflers show a signifacant increase in high RPM power but a loss of TQ on the low end. considering our V6 motors need all the TQ they can get, I'd stick with the stock muffler. TQ x RPM = HP and we all do rev to 6500 or more easily. Also considering that TQ gets you the fast grunt off the line past the comp., and hp which is the product of TQ x rpms, gets you the mph and speed you need to stay ahead.
so the more Tq the better. now start looking into a set of cams and head work, as NISMO87 has felt the most improvement from that work; adding more RPM ability and giving the TQ factor something to smile about!

Just get a GReddy.

Looks are subjective, but quality and sound are among the best.

which muffler will give a good sound out side the car and not to much sound inside the car? i was looking at a tsudo with the removable silencer and also arospeed and RS have one also do you guys think that these are any good. i do a quiet a bit of traveling and the guys say that when you have the silencer in side the muffler it will give you more torque. thanks for your replys -patrick
