Even another Bose Question....
It seems everyone has Bose questions today. Here we go: I just bought my 89 SE and the headunit was dead. I installed a Pioneer DEH-5 that I had from my other Max. The back amps still work but the front are shot. I have bypassed all the amps, however, and it sounds great using the stock Bose speakers. However I have since read that the speakers are 1 ohm and it might damage my HU. I was under the impression that the problem was only if the amps where being used too. I even tried searching and found nothing on this. Reason I am asking is I can't afford a set of speakers at this moment, but dont want to blow my HU.
Any ideas?
Thanks and sorry for the newbie question....

most aftermarket head units are designed to support 4 ohm speakers.
if you lower the ohms to far down you cause damage to the HU, it may not be immediate but it will happen.
Found that out when I tried to run my car sub on my home unit, the Cap went POP! and smoke filled the room (good thing it was under warranty)

First time poster. Yeah!
As for the Bose, I have the Bose in a 90 SE and did the same as you and bypassed all the stock amps but I installed a small sony amp between the HU and speakers. It has been going strong for 5 years. The amp has cut off a couple of times due to overheating but only on long road trips with excessive volume levels. And if you add a small tweeter up in the top of the door panels, they sound great. Good luck.

Not a bad idea...if I get an amp that will handle the 1 ohm speakers. The Bose speakers in the car are in great shape, and the idea of adding a tweater on the door is awesome. I'll have to look into this idea.
Thanks for the input!
