300z oil filter and pan

does anyone have a 300z oil pan or filter and for those who have seen it do you think that it would help (beacause it holding more oil) and the filter is a funny shape to it also, does anyone know the difference?

Oil pan wouldn't work because it wouldn't clear the crossmember. The "hump" is on the exact opposite side of the engine. The filter is the same, its just mounted directly to the block so that the crossover pipe design would clear it. I'm using that kind of setup on my Maxima.

well when I was pulling the rods and pistons from the 300z motor I looked at his oil pan and the only diference I saw was that xtra part that stuck out of the big part of the pan maybe ill just have to look at hem side by side.

Mtcookston: so are you saying that you are useing the oil filter from the 300z? Y do you think that they designed it like that with only that little slot for oil to enter the filter?

sooooooooo

no, no... i'm using an oil filter from a maxima but its on the 300zx oil filter screw on setup thingy. basically, the maxima has that aluminum piece that the oil filter screws onto. the 300zx's oil filter is screwed on directly to the block. that's how i'm running it. the filters are identical from what i've seen.

the oil pans look similar but once you lay them side by side, you'll see the difference. basically, when you get under the maxima you'll see the hump where the oil is stored sitting right next to the crossmember on the passenger's side of it. that hump is on the oppositde side of the engine and therefore would be right where the crossmember is. i'm pretty sure this is how its setup as i remember not being able to use the vg30et's oil pan. there could be a possibility that there is an extra hump somewhere or something but i do know it doesn't fit.

ahh, yes that thing. you wouldn't be able to use that with the maxima's oil pan. however, if you're wanting to pump some more oil swap the oil pump into the maxima engine from the vg30et. i'm pretty sure it has a different gear or is a better pump. either way, its a higher volume output.

yeah that screen. the 300z one has a slit for the oil to go throught unlike the wide open maxima one. I think it should work bolts on the same and it looked the same size. I'll try and figure it out this weekend.

yeah, it should bolt right up. if i remember correctly on the vg30et i have (which could very well be different than the 300zx vg30et since its the jdm model for a gloria) i couldn't use it... but maybe the Z's is different and will work.

Actualy, the maxima and *most* z31s share the same oil pump. Some of the automatic turbos (I think just the 86 year) had a high flow oil pump designed by a company called Melling. The model of this pump is the M110. Again, it was only on a select number of turbo automatics.

from nissanparts.cc

"The VG30E oil pump is an inner gear type which is driven directly off the crankshaft. The turbo pump increases the volume of oil 25% over the non-turbo pump."
