Underdrive Pulley HELP

I just finshed everything up today which included a new asp udp install. When I was putting it on it was very hard to make it seat properly. I had to pound the hell out of it with a hammer and a piece of wood until i got it far enough to drive it the rest of the way in with the bolt. Then I used a torque wrench and kept turning it until it felt like it was all the way in. Then I torqued it to specification.

I started it up and noticed oil leaking slowely from the pulley area. Then I went for a test drive and the power steering belt got chewed up in the process.

I came to the conclusion that the pulley wasn't all the way in. It is probably off by 3/16".

If you have any good ideas on how to put the pulley in all the way, let me know.

hmmm
well with mine I intend to get it so the bolt threads then hit it with the impact gun until it goes home.

One question though, your seal... is the ID of the seal about 1mm smaller than the OD of the collar on the UDP? I'm wondering if I got a VG seal. No wonder the aluminum wore down if this is the correct seal

The aluminum hasn't worn down because I just put it on and it is a new one with the special "sleeve." I am pretty sure that it is for my ve and I thought asp only made them for the ve anyway. I was going to try to use my impact on it but I really don't want to strip that bolt. The service manual says to only torque it down to about 35 ft-lbs and my impact can do as much as 560 ft-lbs. I was thinking about using something like a big piece of strong wood and my mini sledge hammer.

I tried everything and it went in a little further but I don't think it went in far enough. There is about 1/8" of space between the front of the pulley and the front of the shaft. Does anyone have any pics of the gap between the pulley and the oil pan or does any body know what the gap is?

PLEASE HELP!!
