lightened pulleys

i have heard a lot from various sources saying that the underdrive pulley will make your ac and ect. not run as well.
i was just thinking since im a machinist that i could pull my stock pulleys off and just make aluminum replacements that way efficiency would be the same but the rotating mass would be cut alot if anyone could share what they think about this it would be nice
thanks

You wouldn't really be making underdrive pulleys if you maintain the factory diameter, but the reduced rotaional mass should be noticable.
Just make sure to keep'em straight and fairly balanced during the machining process.
What grade aluminum were you planning on using?? Might get pricey pretty quick unless you can your hands on a scrap block - aluminum is not cheap...

Personally, I'd love to see you make one. If it works, and looks like good work, I'd even consider buying one off you.

You could make some good money making one of those for all the S/C 4th genners. They would love one I bet. As for us 3rd genners, I really haven't heard much about a noticeable decrease in performance from the ASP pulley, but if it is an easy thing for you to do, I say go for it!

you mean like this? been there done that.

i stopped making them...why?
people who are not qualified to install them...install them and the pulley fail after a week. installing it incorrectly and laying blame on the product.

<vent mode on>
i totally scrapped the project because one person installed them incorrectly and blamed me for the failure. after i got back the "defective" pullies they were worn on only one side meaning too much side load on the pulley and bearing...aka belt wayyyyy too tight causing the plate to bend in. another person wanted me to pay for towing because the pulley failed on him. another case of poor installation. one story was that it made a noise when it was installed. i changed the bearings for free and sent them out again and they still complained that it made a noise. the owner said that they put oil on it and it quiet it down. no idea how that oil can get into a sealed bearing. noise is caused by...you guess it...belt not riding flat on the pulley. of course none of the owners will "own" up to their own lack of installation knowledge. now they have to call stillen to get the plastic pullies.

Haha, I meant an AL crank pulley.....stock size. I thought ASP made S/C pullies anyway.
