Positive Battery Cable

Positive Battery Cable
Hi All
There is a terminal that sits beside, and attaches to, the positive battery cable where it attaches to the battery terminal. This piece has two wires that snake up the battery cable and plug into it, the terminal appears to join the two wires, and then has a tab that affixes on the battery terminal.
Mine is corroded as hell. I have cleaned it up once but now it's hopeless. Does anyone know where to get a replacement for this? If not (or if so) is there anything that would stop me from "crafting" an assembly of basic electrical terminals to bring the two wires together and then spit them out to the battery terminal and wrap it all in electrical tape? As long as I marry the two wires and then hook them up to the battery aren't I accomplishing the same thing?
Thanks

those two short pieces of 10 gauge wire ARE fusible links. they protect the rest of the car from having the battery connected backwards (don't ask how I know this.....)
but you can usually buy replacement links at the dealer or some parts stores if yours are corroded past usability..
Then I buy a standard car audio battery terminal with a bunch of 4 and 8 awg terminal holes w/ setscrews and go to town on screwing them in. works great.

Thanks for the guidance Matt.
I don't think the links themselves are bad....I think it's just that the terminal is corroded beyond it's ability to interface. Should I replace the links anyway or just cluge togther a new terminal?
Thanks again.
