put the speedo where it should be!

I just thought of this.. who knows if it's been asked before

I could care less about the speedo. i want to see the tach in all it's glory, not on the side, but in the middle like this...

http://www.stolemyinter.net/upload/Dashflip%20copy.jpg

now, i know you'd have to rewire the panel in the back, but could you effectively cut out the traces from the plug socket to the speedo and replace it with wire? you'd do the same with the tach?

it looks really good, but would it be worth the trouble?

that can be arranged. both dials are the same size IIRC w/o the bezel.

be sure to change the stepping motor as well. there could be a chance that they are different (most likely not) but just to make sure everything would work properly. after that all you'd have to do is change the wires around which should be pretty easy as you can follow the leads on the green thing to the wiring harness and swap the correct ones.

definitely an awesome idea though. i have some spare gauges laying around and can mess with that tonight possibly.

I test drove an EVO and it's got a center-mounted tach. I freaking loved it.

hmmm might be easier to make pods and mount aftermarket gauges in it than redo the gauges in the stock housing. the screws that holds the gauge in the pod goes thought the circuit board on the back. i believe the screws are the pieces that makes the contacts to get the gauge working. getting around that will not be fun.

(kind of deleted alot of posts there :-/ )

the tach is smaller than the speedo

wiring wont be too hard, IMHO

assuming you can mount them in the same spots and not have to worry about one poking out or one not sitting flush, you can bolt them like stock, but you will need to cut/move/etc the connectors on the back so the signals dont get mixed up.
