bumpy ride

bumpy ride
ok, i have 17" wheels on 225-45-17 summer performance tires. I also have the Eibach pro-kit springs, along with brand new Koni Red shocks. My question is, why is my ride so damn bumpy?!! It's ridiculous--I feel every bump, every sewer cap, every pothole like x10. Like I said my shocks are new, and i just got rotation, balancing, and alignment. I hate having a ride this bumpy, especially living near the city. I just want a smooth ride.

i know they're not for a smooth ride, but the drop was only 1.2", which isn't that much compared to other springs that drop cars like 2"+. Plus I have BRAND NEW koni red shocks, so i don't understand

i wasn't exactly expecting you to know, i was just making a statement and hoping someone could help.
The tire touches the inside of the wheel well when you turn the wheel all the way. and when you drive with the wheel turned all the way it rubs.

even if the drop is slighter, the eibachs are still one of the stiffer aftermarket shocks available for the 3rd gen. also having larger rims means less rubber, less rubber, less insulation. there could be a problem with the install though... did you shave your bumpstops?

you feel every bump because of (it may be one or more)
1. Tires are lower profile so they absorb less road shock
2. tires are over inflated so they give a harder ride and absorb less road shock
3. as stated above, eibach is a signifcantly stifffer spring than OE.
4. the koni's may not be adjusted to you tastes, they may be set at full stiff.

Yes thats it, WYSIWYG. If you want comfy drive, use old fashioned rubber with 15".
Even new granpa cheap shocks will give rough ride first 10.000km... But now, after the 10k, I can drink my coffee and not spill it.
Just for the swe dish: "Once upon a [summer] time they had square wheels on donkey carts [winter times skis]. Then came the village inventor: vow, i figured out how we can minimize the four bumps on one wheel rotation down to three, lets make triangle wheels... And so started a new swe dish wheeliewiking gummifabrik. Which evolotion stage you are in?"

I tried 215/50/17 yesterday and they still rubbed so im just gonna keep the 235's.

the first number..225, 215, 235...is the width of the tire
the second is the aspect ratio...40, 45, 50...which is the profile...that is the width of the tire divided by the height of the sidewall...iirc
which comes out to...225/45=101.25...235/45=105.75...215/50=107.5
the sidewalls for the 235/45 and the 215/50 are bigger than the 225/45...which can cause rubbing.....adn will affect your speedo
will

ElVito1981 when exactly did you start noticing that your ride was bumpy? After doing what mod? The setup you have isn't exactly a recipe for a smooth ride. Plus sizing your wheels and tires to something that low profile and wide ALONE will add a fair amount of harshness compared to the stock 15" size.
zoltan I'm not sure why you're rubbing even with 215/50. Although you have +45 offset, it should STILL work with that size tire. Even 225/45 is supposed to work. The wheels you have are the same size and offset as 5th Gen wheels, and people run 225/45 on that without problems.... maybe you should get your suspension components checked out. I'm pretty sure I was experiencing minor rubbing on one side due to a shot balljoint myself (different fitment btw).
215/50-17 isn't an odd size. According to the tire calculator, 215/50-17 matches the diameter of the stock tires almost exactly, so that's not the problem...

My stock wheels and tires didn't rub and i just got the new ones on two days ago, so if the 215/50's are almost the same then that would mean that the suspension had to go bad overnight?
Ps. i changed the ball joints about 6 months ago when i redid my enire steering system. so i dont think that there is a problem there.
However i haven't tried the 225/45's yet i am going to tomorrow or later today for those on the east coast. we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Maybe the new set up doesn't absorb as much or put more pressure on than the old?

Thanks for the help guys. i checked the 225/45/17's and they fit perfectly.
I have them on special order and must keep the 235/45/17's for a week until they get here.
Apparently 225/45/17's are an odd size with kuhmo ecsta asx tires.
