aziphrale first check that the wire that contacts the defroster grid on the rear window corner isn't simply broken off. This happens sometimes....

They say thats one of the worst things you can do to your car (drive it when its cold)...not to mention you can crack a lot of stuff in there because of the sudden heat from the gas burning against these freezing cold parts = major crackage!
Unless you just want to warm up the interior of your car or something, you do not have to let the car sit there and idle for more than a few seconds before driving off.

If the oil isn't flowing right away, you should either stop using that 20W50 or buy synthetic oil or move somewhere warmer.... Unless you live somewhere where it gets extremely cold, 5w30 or 10w30 will be okay down to the temperature that chart in the owner's manual suggests (don't remember off the top of my head). Synthetic oils of that grade or lower flow even better of course.

Winter Dressings - The cutting edge

.

Dressed for -40 winter and 80mph storms relesead out by VG30E horseshow

The added shields keeping engine and automatic transmission off from direct wind

The cutting edge! Nissan has de signed nice snow scoops: oops I cut them off..

This GoodYear ROUND shape did not satisfy me at least in the curves. Dunno why, but this sledge edge gives sidestepping a new meaning. Adding a groove on the leaning side, changes the whole slippery sloppery GoodYear -world to controlled traction. So small notch in this critical place, and now sidesweeps are history. You can sharpen your winter tire edges with a dremel -or power saw as I did (not recommended, danger).

That's not what I was told...not just for the oil's sake but for the sake of your entire ENGINE! EVERYWHERE I go, people tell me one of the worst things you can do is drive your car when your engine is still cold. Mainly because the oil needs to lubricate your engine, but also because of the hot temperatures of the burning gas blasting on all those still cold (freezing) parts...That's how you blow head gaskets, crack engine blocks and damage all kinds of expensive parts on your engine! (DOH!)

You don't have to sit there and wait for the engine to warm up fully, but at least until the dam temperature gauge starts moving! You definitely should not only wait a few seconds before leaving...at least 5minutes on really cold days! LOL

And no thanks, I love New England so I think me and my Max will be stayin for awhile...

In reality, bottom panels do not show up, bumper panels are blk like std setting, The very low temp for the rad is grey, not used it really but once last winter under -20 trip.

Btw. Winter is WAR:humans against nature...

The warmachine in real life civilian setting, battle ready:

You know it's making hot gasses already while it's idling, right? Just don't push the engine very hard or rev it very high until it's warmed up a little. There isn't that much difference between sitting there fast idling and driving moderately as far as the engine cares. If it gets super cold where you are, like -30 C or something you should probably use block heaters anyway.

No, I can't say I've noticed much change in radio reception before and after I fixed the defroster lines....

Wiking that's pretty hardcore! I guess you have to take winters a little more seriously over there...

Yes... I will tow u home

It can be like Canada, not so much snow. I like to build my car at my carage, less traffic than on higway... And with kids its no beach picnick to go on a long trip at -40 is real danger if not prepared (-40 once in ten years, -20 every winter for some time, but u never know). Be Ready.

Think about 80mph -40 wind on all of your critical engine parts - that is inside engine bay, under hood.

I've noticed that there are a few "dead" defroster lines at the top of the rear window that seem to be separate from the other lines. Maybe those are the antenna lines. Is it even possible to both use it as an antenna but run power through them at the same time?
