Replacement of Oil Pan Gasket

Has anybody this job before on the VG30E? Any problems I should be aware
of before I begin. If I decide to pay for a shop's labor, how much money should I expect to pay?

i have done it myself. it took me about six hours with two motor mount replacements added in and a snack. it's not very hard just takes time, removing crossmember, old gasket sealent etc...

Zoltan,

6 Hours huh, not bad.

A couple of questions for ya....

Do you recommend the black permatex gasket maker, I thought I would need to purchase a gasket?

How did you know your motor mounts were bad? and how much did you pay for them?

Lastly, I am assuming I will need to support the engine somehow, while I do the work....will using a lift be better and how should I go about supporting the engine? Did you get a quote from a shop before you decided to do the job yourself? and if so what was his price?

tks much

in OEM set up it's just RTV/gasket maker. there's no actual OEM oil pan gasket...(unless they updated their stock). there is 2 seals that are on the sides that you really should replace...otherwise it's just RTV.

engine mount going bad...take it out and see if the rubber is cracked/broken/separated. if yes then it's time for a new mount.

you can support it at the crank and at the tranny...best thing to use is the transverse engine support brace. it's connected to the strut towers and has a portion in the middle to support the engine.

i didn't get a quote from a shop, i just did it.
i used the ultra black in the tube, it takes 24 hrs to fully cure though.
The gaskets are two little rubber pieces on the rounded parts of the seal.
i just support the engine with a block of wood inbetween my jack and the tranny case. just be carefull.
my motor mounts looked like this.
