questions....i just bid on a radar detector and got it 3 days ago...how do i know if its working the way its suppose to be...it goes on when passing by a bank or some department store...but if a cop car goes by it doesnt go on...are the radar on all the times in cop cars or they only go on when they are hiding to catch somebody..thanks... and are there any other way if i can check if its working properly..i havent brought it to a interstate highway yet.....

 

The radar detector goes off near banks/stores because many of them use the X and/or K band for security systems and automatic door sensors.
The radar gun is not always on in a cop car. They only turn on the radar when they are looking for someone to ticket. Sometimes, what they do is keep the unit off until they visually see someone speeding and just as you pass them they turn it on and clock you. This way you have no warning at all. This happened to me on Sunday, 86mph in a 65...a nice $185 fine...f_ucking pigs.

When I was shopping for a 3rd Gen Maxima, I test drove a 91GXE in New Hampshire. Inside, right where the steering column meets the dash, there was a small rectangular box. Turns out it was a Nissan radar detector! Since it was 10 years old it wasn't of very good quality (by today's standards), but it worked and fit perfectly between the column and the dash. I was amazed! Has anyone else ever seen this?? Can they be purchased somewhere? Just thought I'd share that tidbit.
