yea! now you see what a curse these exhaust studs are! they could start a civil war! i do trust dan's advice - every post i've ever seen him make, when he chooses to help, is totally accurate and cuts to the heart of the matter. when i was brand new on these boards, i got into an argument with him too - but he's cool, it seems like he hates you but he really doesn't bear a grudge at all (unless he just forgot who i was! ) ever since then he's been really helpful to me. thanks guys for all the input - i really feel the pressure to succeed on this now
i won't disappoint

Also I always drill all the way through the stud. You will know because it will go through it and then a little space then the head. Dont drill into the head though.
lol
I've been there.

...can see where the bit touched the end, no concern there. pretty far off center, even though i had drilled a stud guide... i think the harder metal from the broken cutter set it slightly off track

...i count 10 threads still good, plenty to hold the new stud in...

... hell yea

i'm glad i can help..sorry for the delay. told u the right bit would eat right through the ez out. for the one that didn't believe me that the carbide bit can drill out the ez out and wanted minty to use a helicoil...there's proof right there.

seriously, i rubbed down 3 cobalt bits and didn't even scratch it, that carbide bit is mean! i went slow and it still took less than 1 minute total drilling time, just went in 10 second bursts, then re-oiled bit and stud everytime in between... seeing as how that bit was all i had... and i doubt there's anything to drill IT out
