ecu toast!!

Well It's pretty much as I thought, my ECU is toast. The coolant from the heater core that leaked a couple of weeks ago got into the unit and fried it. I think my TCM is messed up as well.

A couple of questions.... 1. The dealership says that after the instalation is complete the ecu has to be reprogramed, is this true? From my understanding the ecu basically gets all of it's information from the drivers "habbits" and the sensors and makes it's adjustments as neccessary.

2. They also said that the part # on my ecu ( 2371A-87E10RE) would have to be matched with an ecu of the same part #, same thing for the tcm. Is this true?

Any information would be helpful.
thanks.

1. Stealer$hip Tale, not told in FSM.
2. Many ECU's around, all will not fit in. Suppose last letters ? are revision, can be ? different. Get one from scrapyard with return right, tst.

The ECU has to play with the TCU as/if u got autotranny, I suppose manual ECU does not fit, also VG vs VE should ? be different.

You didn't mention what type of car and/or engine you have, but the VE automatic ECU will work in the 5-speed, but the variable intake won't function. I swapped in MrGone's and my car ran fine, just didn't have the VI.

That is something to consider in a pinch, if you can't find a 5-speed one. I would imagine the VE automatic ECU is pretty common and you should be able to find one, same with a VG automatic ECU.

If you have a VG automatic or 5-speed, I don't have any information on swapping and you are best served getting one that matches.

yes but, what about reprograming? is it like "plug n' play" or do I really have to bring it back to the dealership for them to screw around with it before It would work?

Grreat! Tell about the former/current box versions/numbers.. please.

U should clean the connectors, if/as they were soaked to clygol... No problem today (perhaps), but later will be. Warranty on that...
