Oil leaking on my 93 SE Maxima

I changed the oil yesterday on my 93 SE Maxima with the VE30DE engine. I used the Toyota 90915-YZZA2 filter to address the VTC clicling issue.

Before I changed the filter and oil, I noticed that there were oil drips under the pan, so I cleaned everything out first.

This morning, there was a spolt under the pan, and oil drips. What's wrong ? Is the thread bad on the oil pan or is it something mroe serious ? What do I do ?

thanks,
Ninjarider

Well it could be coming from 2-3 diff places since you never specified front/back/left/right etc..

But I'll go ahead and say, front crankshaft oil seal (front main seal)

Dry all and/or wash whole engine - drive hot and start to follow where its coming from. Btw. Jeff might have 'some' experience

Test oilpan bolts, valve cover screws for looseness. Tighten if loose.

Since Jeff guessed front seal, I will throw a guess at the rear seal.

I'll go ahead and throw in the rubber seals at each end of the oil pan, just to mix things up a bit.

(Probably the front main seal like Jeff said though)

Mine had the seal at the end of the oil pan leak. It didn't leak oil on the ground, it just flung it all over the inside of the bell housing.

Bringing back an old thread...Would the rear main seal cause oil AND tranny fluid to drip, because they both do and seam to be coming from relatively close areas. Also, would it be a good idea to try one of those STOP LEAKS in the oil?

Oil collecting on the bottom of the oil pan points to a blown oil pan gasket.

The tranny fluid could be coming from where the axles mount up to the tranny, thats a pretty close area to the rear of the engine. But no, the tranmission is sealed by itself and shares no fluid or seals with the engine, so it looks like you've got two leaks.

Ninjarider, I've got a main seal leak too, so i ordered my ASP underdrive pulley today so I only have to go down there once and knocking them both out at the same time. If you were planning to mod, you might wanna check it out. The dealer i bought my car off of cleaned the engine really well so I couldn't see an oil leak, and now my entire right underbody has a nice coat of anti rust . Those dealers are sneaky. My leak hasn't dropped the engine oil level to any noticeable changes on the dipstick, but check yours because it may be more serious.

I had a rear main seal leak that I spend tons of money to fix and nobody fixed it. On a lark I tried Autorx and after two treatments it's gone. I don't mean this to be a commercial or anything, but for me it really did work. Supposedly it conditioned the rubber to seal the seals, so to speak.

I'm about to try one of those stop leak additives, but first I'd like some reassurance that it won't f*** up my engine in the long run.
