Since i have owned my maxima, i have noticed that there is a sticker inside of the gas flap that says that high octane gas is recommended for the car, but have always taken the cheap route, and put 87 in.. just wondering, how much of a gain could i expect to see if i started using 93 octane, or 93 with some sort of octane boost?

I think it recommends at least 89 octane. I have not put in 94 octane since iot went above $2 a gallon. It seemed to me I got better gas millage with the higher octane! My 2 cents

over $2 a gallon? dang.. i must be lucky here since it is still 1.56 for like 87', and i think like 1.69 for like 93..

Should I

I changed from 91 RON to 96 RON and got better fuel economy, no noticeable Hp increase but it virtually got rid of an idle stumble the car would get. I beleive it was the knock sensor.

Brent.

Link below should answer most your questions (and more). Start around Section 6.13 and then Section 7.

http://www.faqs.org/faqs/autos/gasoline-faq/part3/

I run 90-92 in my 94 GXE. Car seems to run best and I get terrific gas mileage.

Yeah I am paying $1.81 a gallon for 89 octane! Sucks when I have to pay 25 to 32 dollars to fill up my tank!

$1.81 ain't bad at all.

I bore my kids about the old days here in Ontario Canada when you could get a gallon of gas for under $2. Right now 92 octane will set you back about 95 cents a litre - there's 3.8 litres in a US gallon. That means we're paying about $3.60 a gallon !!! Of course almost half of that is taxes ... to keep our roads nice and smooth ... what a scam.
