brake light inquiry!

My brake warning light in the car is on, and has been for a few weeks, and I can find no real problem in the system.

It started glowing all the time after I used my hand-brake to do a couple powerslides in a wet parking lot, and now it's staying on.

What triggers this light, and what should I look for ?

P.S. - It also feels like I "Wore out" the hand-brake...could it be something with the rear drums?

Thanks.

^ exactly right and what that usually causes that is your brakes are worn out so the fluid is more in the lines. thus low fluid the brake lightr comes on.

Could the cable to the emergency brake have popped loose? That would trigger the warning light.

very unlikely the cable just snaps. it's most likely low brake fluid.

I dont see how that would trigger the warning light.

The cable can get stretched or break but it's not that common.
