That's it in a pinch. Hitting the trunk release results in a "release" sound from the trunk, but it doesn't unlatch. I don't recall ever reading this issue on these forums. Any ideas?

 

yup, your trunk release defeat is active.
look by the latch inside the trunk. theres a lever that slides up and down, it's probably in the wrong position

 

Mine was like that when i bought it. The mechanism was bent because it had slipped out of place over time and eventually was just getting the boot hitting it. i took it out, cleaned it with metho, bent it so it was perfectly straight, sprayed RP7 all over it then put it back in and it's worked perfectly ever since.
