break grinding

I've been noticing within the last few months that when I come to a stop relatively quickly I hear this slight grinding in my rear breaks. Although, the grinding is something you feel more than you hear, if that makes any sense. A friend says it could be caused by the calipers not being "aligned". Does that make any sense? He says that maybe only one pad is hitting the rotor and the other is not making contact, which would cause' more vibration. Also, I've noticed that my break fluid seems to be decreasing. Not a lot, it's actually been quite a while since I put some in last. How often should one have to add more break fluid? Could this be related to my break issue?

Oh, and my breaks already squeek.

Break history: All pads were replaced a little over a year ago. I checked the ones in the front a few months ago, and they had plenty of pad left. Also my my rotors look sort of "glazed". #1. is this bad? #2 could this be part of the problem? I can see my reflection in the rotor pretty well.

Thanks.

- ONLY once in a lifetime, that is fillup after brake overhaul.
- Its the related cause of next repair: New piping to rear or leaking booster swap? Raise u car and inspect all brake piping under belly
- rotors are shiny only if u use brakes daily; still I'd would buy a real mirror. Intermittently rust bits cause scratching squeek noise, no problem as the rotor material is rusting iron. Cleaning helps.
- nissan front cooled double rotors extend pad life 3x compared to single non cooled rotors (like less used rear ones).

you should hook up with my ex gf. she would write things like "i don't want you to brake up with me". and you write things like "break grinding" sorry to hear about your grinding problem. just take it to a brake shop and get a free inspection. maybe it's not even the brakes though.

break = damaging an object

So then, am I hearing that the grinding could have something to do with the break fluid decreasing?

And can anyone tell me if the rotors having a "glazed" look to them is a bad thing?

thank you.

Fluids seldom make grinding noise =separate issue, possibly nothing to worry about. Make sure... Fluids disappear only via leak. Leak=trouble. Find the spot. ...Dont find=booster is been filled....

Shiny steel is ok.

Probably just need to have your rotors resurfaced.

If your fluid level is slowly getting down, you have a leak somewhere....
The oil just doesn't vanish

You may want to remove the calipers (rear ones) to check if the pins are stuck (Very common on 4 disk brakes cars)

you might need new calipers. sometimes they dont move freely and will get stuck against your wheel. When this happens they tend to make a grinding noise for a second after you hit the brakes
