the vtc problem doesnt have to be fixed, just live with the tick when it warms up. Also try running STP motor flush at your next oil change...

...guys are right...the VTC is more of a nuisance with the clacking than a real mechanical threat. Sooner or later, you will want it fixed, but I've talked to several shops, and they've all said they never saw an engine failure due to the noise.

I always add some oil additives to mine with every change just hoping to minimize the noise. Don't know whether it helps, but I don't think it can hurt.

good luck, and don't sweat it.

Possible valve damage?

My VTCs are atarting to go, they clack for the first couple of kms and then are quiet. I asked the dealer about disabling them (grounding) or what would happen if I just left them alone. He said that he "never heard of the rewire" (of course he'd say that), but that if I didn't fix them eventually I'd burn out the exhaust valves.
What do you think? Any truth in this?

I'd be cautious of that guy. I talked to 4 different service departments and not a single one tried to get me in there for the repair and they all told me that they had seen the problem, were aware it was a problem, but had never seen one cause any engine damage. They say folks typically have them repaired before they get to that point because the noise is so bad. Mine do exactly as you describe, noisy as heck at start-up, but not all the time, then quieten down. I don't worry about it anymore.
