How difficult is it to replace?

How difficult is it to replace the Cyl head temp sensor. I just got a check engine code 13. And I called a couple diffrent places and the prices are very wild I dont think they know what i am talking about... Hell nissan told me that the sensor was 130 bucks and one shop told me that they would fix the thing for only 80 bucks... so I think my question is if i get the sensor from just a parts store for cheap...

is it a pain the the **** to fix? I cant even see the sensor when i pop the hood the manual says its on the passenger side near the thermostat..

has anybody done this?

thanks for help in advance...

The one that you mentioned is in the manual sounds like the coolant temp sensor which is like $40 or so. Easy to replace. I have been told there is a temp sensor under the intake manifold but i've never actually seen it, so if anyone has info on this i'd be interested.

Probably on both vg and ve. One red sensor for ecu function. One smaller black senor for the guage reading.

BTW. ALL NEWBIES, PLEASE USE THE ABOVE STICKIES FOR FUTURE TECHNICAL REFERENCE BEFORE POSTING THE QUESTION.

Its the coolant temp sensor. Its on that little elbow where the coolant comes from pump and also goes to the radiator. It should be the one on the back, it has the larger plug with two contacts. The one on the front has just one and is for the temp guage.

The cylinder head temp sensor was on the earlier Maximas and was on the front head kind of behind the timing cover near the distributor. The stupid *** Haynes manual and probably many more still list the 3rd gens as having one when it technically doesn't... did I mention I hate the Haynes manuals...?

I did just look at that a while ago on the idiotzone site but i was not sure if that was what he was talking about, being they call it something different from what the ecu code book says....I'm still owned by da jeffy though..

I actually wasn't referring to you but to the original poster. I tried to tackle two issues at once as to prevent my post count from getting to high

You really don't want to pad that post count, Jeff...

The coolant temp sensor is about $20 at NAPA. I haven't worked on a VG, but on the VE it takes all of 5 minutes and a socket, I think it was 14mm? I can't remember, but it was uber easy. My NAPA even had the sensor in stock, so I imagine a lot of them are the same part.

Mine threw the same code. It had been running like it was posessed.

Happened to me (GXE only)

Hey I just changed the COOLANT TEMP SENSOR switch like 2 weeks ago cuz my fan wasnt going on causing the car to overheat. I went to murrays and bought it for 17.99 came up to like 20 bucks or so. changed it in 15 minutes (actually, g/f's father changed it) . Watch out for pressure cuz you'll burn yourself with hot coolant. You'll need like an 18-19mm wrench fyi.

I havent checked the fsm or stickies for pics but maybe MyGreenMax, Wiking or one of the smart people can post a pic of where it is since they always have a picture for everything. God bless them people with pics
