window regulator install

A good friend of mine just bought a 89 max and the LR window wont go up or down. I was hoping to get some helpful info on changing the regulator or any possible write-ups.

Thanks in advance
Jason

Pop open the door panel w/o breaking any rivets. That can be done by hand with the help of a proper tool wherever it's hard to do. Then you'll have to hang the glass with some S-shaped pieces of wire by the top edge of the door, unbolt the regulator and remove it. Put the new back in, bolt it in and snap the door panel in place.
I'd suggest putting some extra lithium greese on the new regulator and all the rest of the old ones too. This might save you from replacing any more regulators in the future.

go to the general maintenance and look on craig b's site I did it with very little car knowledge. Also since you are doing the rear take out the ash tray and use a 10mm ratchet for the hard screws a magnetic screwdriver is also helpful.

Jason,

like generation3 said, check Craig Brace's site in the stickies. He has a good how-to section, with pics and stuff of the window replacement.

It's actually pretty easy, he just helps locate all of the screws. I am sure you can figure it out, being as you have a shop and all

The hardest part of the job is to put the bolts back in correct order while doing the door handles. The rest is a piece of cake.

hey, something I just remembered:

When you put the new regulator in, before you put the door panel back on, make sure the window goes up and down with no problems. The regulator mounting holes are designed to vary a little, so you might have to adjust the bolts.

The first one I did, I spent like an hour figuring out why the window was sticking at the top, even though I put the bolts in the exact same place as the original. I guess the regulators aren't built exactly the same.

re: window reg.

Absolutely not hard to do, as they were saying. And about those little plastic tabs: they are SO fragile, and kind of expensive to replace, so its worth it to be very careful with them.

Dont know if you have already replaced your regulator yet, but incase you didnt, I just wanted to emphasize the importance of not letting the window drop down too far. I changed my regulator a couple of months ago, and let the window slip down too far. The result was that the window had jumped off its track and putting it back was a real PITA since there isnt much space to work with in the door. Other than that everything went pretty smoothly. I got my part from pepboys and replaced the regulator in their parking lot, but I would recommend internetautomart too.

I have bought from internetautomart and had no problems with them.
