daytime running lights 4 Canada
Hey All!
My 92 GXE is cursed with Daytime Running Lights that come on as soon as you start the car. I think they use the high beam filament in the bulbs, maybe at a reduced voltage?? My problem - only 1 works, but it's not a bad bulb. High and low beam headlights work fine.
My local grease monkey said something about a DRL control module, but he didn't know much about it.
Can anyone give me any hints on this? Where is this module located? Or can I disable them completely? (will the headlights still work if the module is removed?)
Thanks

im in canada too
hey waasup, i have a us model 3rd gen. they didnt have drl in it so i went to a garage and they installed thme for me, its actually two relays they put it, one on each headlight. i went to the nissan dealer and he told me the actual OEM module is 350$ and two hours of work to fish all the wires around. My suggestion would be to take your car to a shop where they do car alarms installs. Or if you want go to canadian tire , they sell a module for 25$ . if you gonna install it yourself you need to connect the two headlights together , because the headlights in the nissans have individual relays. What happend to you is probably one of these realys either died or you have a bad connection from your DRL module to the headlights (sorry i dont know where the module is placed in the car, i could check for you). I cant think of anything more for now.
P.S I got mine done at Duro , it took the tech 25 minutes to install them , they work great and he used relays for the drl. hope it helps you somewhat, oh and yes if you unplug the module your headlihghts will work.the module is just so that your lights come on as soon as you turn your key thats all

Had the same problem - a new DRL from Nissan Canada cost me $100CDN, and it took me 15 minss to install.
What happened in mine was that the relays were shorting out, and finally gave up - they were sticking or not making contact...

from what i understand the DRLs are the high beams running at 40%. my DRL/headlights in general have been acting up too. was hoping for a way to circumvent the module completely, but i might have to start phoning around to the wreckers.
The power for 1 highbeam is powered through a relay that feeds both highbeams.
In the end, buying new was simplest. If you're buying a 15 yo DRL module to replace your own 15 yo DRL module, where are you going to be in 6 months?
Had a friend with an SUV that was pulled over by the police for flashing lights at oncoming traffic, giving away a speed trap. He said he wasn't - and when he was out of the vehicle, the lights started flashing again. Same problem - DRL module fried. Lucky for him the cop saw it...

Sorry for not being there
Life got busy - what can I say.
I got my DRL unit 'off the shelf' at Abbotsford Nissan. No muss, no fuss. Chilliwack Nissan didn't have one available, and I seem to recall they wanted an extra $10 or so...
