Running With No Cat = CEL???
I'm really really bored, and was thinking of just taking the cat off real quick to go Open Y. Will it throw a code? Also, if it does, will the code go away after I bolt it back up?
Thanks.
Thanks.

02 sensor is b4 the cat so the computer has no idea if its there or not. Plus, the stock computer almost never throws a CEL any way.
You'll probably loose some power with that much exaust disconnected. You have to have a correctly flowing exaust with little backpressure to make the most power and chopping it off at the cat on a mostly stock maxima will loose power.
Just leave it on and do the environment a favor. Its not hurting your car to leave it on.

I should know. I have uh let me count, 5 exaust leaks before the cat. under 2K rpms sucks, once above its light a switch. It makes power to redline, def less bottom end and more top end then my first maxima. Also I get 250 miles per tank, so yea thats not good.

Oh I know, I was only doing it out of pure boredom. I expected the loss in low end. I would never do it as a "performance mod" hahah. Also where I'm at, no neighbors, so thats not a problem. I ended up just going open back pipe. The sound actually isn't that bad. I expected much worse. But I was just bored, and now it's back to stock.

You will not throw a CEL by running an open Ypipe.
I run an open cutout everytime I hit the track and my cutout is virtually the same as an open Ypipe.
I do lose low end power. It's definitely a noticable loss in power when you are running with the stock final drive gearing and stock torque converter. But with my 22" slicks (4.10 final drive) and my 2900 stall TC, my 60 foot times do not change noticably with the cutout open or closed. My car winds up above 4K rpm in such a quick amount of time, that the loss in low end is hard to notice in the 60'. But on street tires and stock TC, it WILL be very noticable!
The gain in top end power is definitely noticable also.
Overall, your car will be faster. But it's hard to notice the overall gain without running your car on the track. Expect a big loss in low end and big gain in top end.
I consistantly shave .15 everytime I run my cutout open versus keeping it closed with the stock muffler and stock Bpipe.
My advice is, don't do it for street driving. It's illegal and VERY loud and annoying. You will be another one of those ricers rolling around town with your loud exhaust.
Now, if you want to shave some time in the 1/4 mile and can care less what people think of you at the track, then run the open Ypipe. It will help your track times.
