The dreaded recall....

So I finally got Nissan to look at my car tuesday to see if it needed the recall done. It ended up being a 5 and a half hour event. The car does need the recall and they ordered all of the parts yesterday and they are going to call me when they all come in so they can schedule a time to do it.

They said Nissan would pay $2000 to have it done, and the total on the parts only came to like $300. So that must mean an a** load of labor, which they told me 30 hours. And I get a rental car for 4 days. Too bad I couldn't get a 350Z as the rental for 4 days.

Anyway, that's an update on that. They said they have pictures and that my seat belt isn't even connected to the car so I'm going to try and get the pictures from them and put them online so everyone can see how bad it is. They said they've never seen one this bad.

Wow..They are actually going to fix it?

Most dealerships will just buy the car from you at book value just to avoid fixing it..

Yeah, I was shocked that they didn't put up a fight at all. Hell the service manager even told me he had a 92 Maxima he would sell me too lol.

I would look over their work carefully before driving it off the lot..Very carefully..

I would also take a look at that 92..

Why? Dealership body shops tend to do pretty solid work.

And you gotta remember the dealership isn't paying for this repair, Nissan is. Nissan is the dealership's biggest customer, so as long as they get the go ahead from Nissan it shouldn't be a problem.

I personally do not trust any dealership or repair shop period, there are good ones out there, but most imo are "less" than trustworthy..This is from experience, not paranoia..[insert long stories here]

being a claim adjuster, I work with body shops all the time and just because its a dealership DOES NOT mean they do quality work. It also DOES NOT mean they use ALL OEM parts - that is the biggest lie.

Treat any Dealership just like any other "Repair Shop",till they show you otherwise!

I'm not saying all dealerships are awesome, I'm just saying that you probably have a better chance of quality work there then at some shady back ally shop. Dealerships have certain standards that have to be kept up or they get Nissan coming down on them. Obviously there are exceptions.

I'd talk to the tech who is doing the work, ask him how and what he intends to replace. Check out some jobs in progress first.

Yeah it's for the rusted seat belts and gas filler neck. The filler neck is so bad that I can't fill the car all the way up, if I do I leak between 1/4 and 1/2.

i work for BMW and its the same crap with them. i c all the work that the techs. do and i was shocked to c that not all the work is top notch. yes, when u get it fixed they replace all the parts usin' oem bimmer parts but sometimes its not even the part they have to change. if they c that its fixable they will fix it and not replace it and tell u it was replaced and they keep the new part for themselves. now if ur out of warranty then they will tell u that they did replace it and not fix it but will charge u for the new part replacement even though they didn't replace it. as for the engines and trannies, BMW use to ship out new engines and trannies but now they send out rebuilt engines and trannies since its cheaper but the customer will still be told its brand new and not rebuilt. btw: i program these damn cars. lol!
