VTC Broke (i think), Engine trash?
VTC Broke (i think), Engine trash?
Well I've had ticking VTC's for awhile, they would tick on start up and some times after sitting at a light for a little while. I didn't ground them (I guess I should have
)
So on my way to work this morning accelerating from a stop normally, shift into 2nd and the engine dies. I manage to pull over, and the engine won't turn over, seems seized. I get it towed home with AAA and notice some oil leaking, upon further inspection there is a hole in the lower front timing chain cover, and I can see the timing chain.
Seems like my front VTC let go, and messed up the timing chain I'm guessing... engine only has 131k miles on it...
Not sure if I want to attempt to swap a different engine in it, or just junk it....

Yup,i've seen a few past threads with the same area broken,the vtc end cap most likely exploded,sending the chunks of it down into the timing chain cover,most likely breaking the chain...
Good luck..
Good luck..

I bought my last one, with no major problems (only 2 bad injectors) for that.
