taking off rear valve cover on VG

So I took that max in the shop while I went of vacation. One of the reasons was an oil leak. The shop seems to think it is coming from the rear valve cover. I dont have to remove anything else to get that thing off right? (i.e. the intake manifold)

i think you have to take both manifolds off for that. if not atleast the front.

I personally did both valve cover gaskets at the same time so I removed the plentum to get to them. Now if you're just gonna do the rear it looks like there's clearance and I was told by Alex V that you can just remove the valve cover without having to remove much else.

If the rear one is leaking then the front one might be as well if they're both equally old. You can also try tightening the bolts down...I notice they tend to loosen up a bit with time and use.

Yea the rear valve cover can come off just by taking off a few hoses and moving the wiring out of the way. The front one is the one that you have to pull the intake manifold off for.

Pulling off the intake isn't difficult. It's just time consuming. There are a ton of little hoses and lines that have to be disconnected and have fun trying to remember where they went.

thanks guys, now that I remember I have already replaced that one before. I am going to check to see if the screws came loose or what. New gaskets are like $19.

I installed a new OEM back valve cover gasket a few weeks ago. New was around $12 from courtesynissan. It's an easy job as mentioned above. I ended up needing to retorque the screws a week later as there was some seepage after expanding and contracting. You probably only need to retighten and you should be go to go.
The front valve cover gasket is a different story and alittle more work.
