I've got a 92 GXE A/T that is bone stock, although in very good condition. I want to start modding it out, and have decided on getting either a CAI or an exhaust. Can you tell me which would be better, and if so, what company or type of intake or exhaust should I get. I have about $300 to spend right now, so I couldn't go too expensive on the exhaust. Any help would be appreciated.

I would.....

...go with a y-pipe first! WSP aluminized steel pipe is like $275 shipped I think. After that I would go with a custom oscai setup for the intake.

does the y-pipe increase performance as much as the intake or exhaust?
and does it hurt smog at all?
otherwise, if its better than the CAI or exhaust, i'll go with it
thanks, Kevin

it increases performance more than both. probably more than both combined. it doesnt affect smog at all. i'd go for it.

intake or exhaust

I would get the intake first, cause it would be easier to install a whole exhaust if your going to get that. The intake will make the sound of your engine a lot better. I dont know which intake to get though. I have a customized one.

Re: intake or exhaust

I started with the CAI and loved the way it made my max sound and it was a easy install

a cat-back exhaust would be the last thing that i would get. i'd get intake and y-pipe first so i could be a sleeper. i wouldn't get exhaust because people will think i'm modded and attempt to race me and kick my ***. better to build up the hp undercover first, then let everybody know you ready (with a cat-back) to step up to the line

man, that's what i'm thinking! i'm getting tired of my muffler and i think i'm gonna go back to a stock style muffler. i like the sound of the intake with the stock rather than the straight-thru i have now. i'm probably selling my muffler to a friend and going back to stock. where can i get a good stock style muffler with stock tips?? anyone know?

Ive got the greedy cat back exhaust for my car. It is a nice hop up but I would go for other things first. CAI CAI CAI CAI CAI. Did I mention that I would get a CAI first?
They really help out the performance of the maxima. I dont have one of the y pipes so I cant tell ya about how those help out but from the others it seems like they might help too. But you yourself can install the CAI which will save you some $.
