Changing the Distributor
Changing the Distributor
I was looking to change the distributor on my DOHC motor from another DOHC motor (because the external plastic parts are broke). My brother with some mechanical knowledge says that it may be tricky to do. I honesty haven't looked at it yet so i have no idea if its hard or not but he said to ask you guys if there's any advice or anything i should know before, during, or after i take the distributor out. He doesn't trust Haynes books either.
Instructions to removal...
(see pic)Mark or scribe a line on the head/cam sensor on both engines in the same place,so not to alter the ignition timing..Then remove the two retaining bolts on the sensors/swap out/line up marks/tighten down bolts...Done

I'll stick to a timing light myself.

How bout you give the guy a chance to respond to my information with any questions regarding the timing of either engine before you start your flame fest...
What can cause the timing to be off? Engine A was takin from a car that was in an accident that just missed hitting the motor. But it did crack the external plastic piece on this engine (the black roundish piece by the red label on the VE motors "16 valve DOHC") and bend the prongs that plug into a harness. The black roundish piece (camshaft position sensor, i guess) on Engine B was going to replace the one on Engine A. However Engine B was ruined from the VTC breaking. Should i be concerned with something here?
even if timing was off.....
on my car i have the cam sensor turned to the left or right is it.... to advance the timing a few more degrees.... just make sure you have a knock sensor light to tell when you go too far :-)
