im thinking valve lifter but... could be the exhaust manifold. but i doubt its the manifold due to the fact that it hapeens every few seconds. try using a factory nissan oil filter. 15208-55yoo part no this will help your problem i used aftermarket oil filters onmy max a few times and i get the same dang noise but when i use the factory filter the noise isnt there.
Good luck.

i have a similar question about a clicking noise...
like when ever i start my engine, i get like 5 Fast clicking noise's sounds like Vavles Tapping... when i first start it.. it sounds it.. then after the 5 clicks or "taps" they are gone and never come back.. its only at start
any one have this noise then they start their VG maxima?

Yes
It's been getting worse over the years. My car has 128K miles now and it would only happen like once every 6 months until a year ago. It got much worse about 3 months ago (like every other cold start), but for some reason, it seems to have gotten better now (it hasn't happened for about a month now.
It's gotta be one of the hydraulic lifters. I was wondering if anybody actually had this fixed or does different oil help?
