Transmisson problems.......
I have a '91 Maxima and live in upstate SC (about 30 mins south of Charlotte). Something is wrong with the transmisson. (By the way it's an a automatic.) When I'm driving at a steady speed (like 55 or so), the RPM dial thingy goes crazy and the car like kinda jumps. A guy friend said it's doing something like switcching in a lower gear or something else along those lines (I don't really remember exactly what he said). It's really worrying me.
Does anyone know what the problem is and just how much it's going to cost to get it fixed? Also if anyone in my area knows a good place to take it, I would appreciate any suggestions. This really sucks because I just had to have the front axles worked on and now this goes wrong. I love my max but it's really starting to make me mad. Anyone else having problems like this? It would kinda ease my mind a little if I knew someone else was going through the same thing I am.

I just went through something similar. I also thought that the problem was with the tranny by the way it felt. It turned out that my engine was actualy missing and causing it. I replaced my plugs, plug wires, cap / rotor, and all is working great again. Check out my thread: Missing... Engine or Tranny
Good luck,
