this one is way cheaper than the running one I found
if this one had been A/T though it would probably be on the way to chicago already

Yeah, I don't think there would be any other reason to replace the timing chains. Maybe the person thought the VTCs clacking were the timing chain going out?

I really don't have time for that, but I've got space, a spare engine and its not too far from here.

But is it just a maintanence issue, or did something go wrong with it and cause other damage as well?

There are 3 chains btw.

Pff as long as the engine isnt bad and I got a beretta,n***a I'm down fo' whateva' (credit to Dr. Dre for those last 9 words) I've got my g/fs dad to gimmie a hand if anything, yes he's a retired mechanic with 30 years of experience

Yes he's the one that taught me how to change timing belt on VG, I'm sure he can do chain too.

I just pray the car is driveable and not sold. If so, I can sell my body ALL NIGHT LONG (credit to Phil Collins for those last 3 words) and get enough cash for le VE5orz

it's not drivable OBVIOUSLY
ask him how long it's been sitting and if it rolls freely.
I just had a guy come for the 240sx and then leave without it because the right rear wheel was frozen. he had rented a uhaul and trailer to do it.
my advice is to get BP motorclub top of the line and wait 3 days then have them tow it back for the cost of the membership.
(100 mile tow coverage on the top policy $120-$140 per year w/ 3 tows free)

well if it needs a timing chain you gotta be sure that the engine itself still works... i don't know much about the VE in terms of interference, but if it is one... then it might not be so driveable after all, even with a new chain set.

so then you're thinking it's just worn or stretched... but not broken. the seller didn't mention engine damage i don't think... just the tchain. so maybe it's not busted.

Either it broke while running and wrecked the valves similar to a broken VTC, or he was just doing a high-mileage overhaul and got tired of it. The chains are good for the lifetime of the engine, but if you're changing the tensioners there anyway... then you might as well refresh an old chain, so perhaps thats what he was up to.

it's worth close to $300 in scrap metal and catalytic convertor alone, wouldn't be suprised if that thing is gone by now

Chain work = probably busted motor = add another $1,000-$1,200 to the deal to get it running. Result = okay deal + tons of motor swapping

Lionel Richie (you know Nicole Richie's dad) sang "All Night Long."

If you want a set of timing chains free, pay me $10 for shipping and you can have them. I am pretty sure I still have all three. They came from my original engine with 140k, but I think those should last just about forever. They are taking up space in my garage.

Ok so I called the guy, there's other people already looking into buying it but just so you all know, the engine is all taken apart. He got the car from the previous owner already taken apart. What happened is that when the previous owner had the car it suddenly stopped working and Nissan told him he needed a timing chain. He started working on it and eventually gave up. So theres no way to test anything until either its all together or torn more apart. He's got all new parts that come WITH the car. I guess I'd get it just for the transmission. Might go see car Sat or Sun if its still there, Brian if you wanna tag alone you're more than welcomed.

ALL NIGHT LONG, I thought it was phil collins, I guess they both have that gay voice

So....someone beat me to the car This means I need to have emergency cash on me at all times. both managers from my previous job and current job carry at least $500 cash in case something good pops out of nowhere. I should TRY to at least have that much in the bank lol
