Brake Light Steady On (NO EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NOT ON)

I started the car today and noticed that the brake light on the cluster was steady on. So i took it to Midas and the mechanic told me that these Maximas have sensors for when the pads get low. Is this true. I had not heard of that before on our cars. He also suggested i take it to a brake specialist. Mind you this is not the mechanic that always works on my car so i don't know how much to believe him.

check the fluid level. that's the "sensor" for low pads... pads go in, fluid fills the space in the caliper's cylinder. either your pads are REALLY worn, or they didn't put enough fluid in whenever your brakes were done last, or you have a leak, or your parking brake SWITCH is stuck/gummed up.
