nope.. some people might say it is.. but.. it is what i run, and nearly all the high HP turbo cars I've build run. None of us have ever had an oil issue. the biggest reason that manufacturers recommend such thin oil is for mileage purposes. However i am willing to sacrifice a mpg for better protection when i am at 18 psi boost.

no sleepy, you use oil... to seal up the rings if they are bad, as a way of testing to see if the rings were the cause of bad compression.
and when that doesnt work use some comet. ive had a to do it a few times. if fact my sunfire still runs compression went from 0psi to over 120 psi in a matter of moments.

as a fix that lasts for a while, or just to verify bad rings?

i have been using the castrol GTX 10w-40 and it runs fine. I dont think a differnce will be notice unless if you switch from a cheap oil to a full synthetic where you will notice the car will be quieter, colder, and it will run better. I plan to switch to full synthetic for my next oil change.
