I've always thought VGs were some of the most durable engines out there, after all my dad of all people has passed 200K twice on PFs. I just searched for the highest mileage vehicles on ebay and after skipping 9 pages of likely BS 999,999 mile muscle cars I found this pathfinder.

For those of you who don't want to click the link or read this thread after it becomes invalid it's a 6 cylinder 1987 Pathfinder, 4WD, 5 speed, and everything for $1500. It has 541K miles though, quite a few for any car.

It's probably been rebuilt and it may have even had an engine swap (or two) but still I'm pretty sure its hard to deny that these engines last forever.

 

 

I've seen a VE with 440K here too...I know they can make it past 300K, I just want to see some 500Ks, 600Ks, etc. After all some dude with a Volvo made 1,000,000 last I heard.

I was posting this more or less to encourage people to keep maintaining our VGs rather than buying BMWs, VQs, etc.

I wish some of the bushings and motor mounts were "young" Ahh, that's next on the hit list.

There was someone about a year ago or so that posted a pic of his vg with 450k or something close to that. but no ve...

 

Our white max's are twins practically! Just hit 160k on Friday on a couple hundred mile trip up to Vermont. Mines are year older....but so are my bushings

 

whats wrong with buying BMW's and VQ's??? i still maintain mine. the body has well over 280k miles on it but the engine has only 132k on it. so yeah VG's last for a long time as long as it is well maintained and not neglected.

I was just kidding sort of, I really like maximas and think the community is too small for us to just sell our maximas without them getting the recognition they deserve. You were who I was thinking about when I mentioned the BMW thing no offense.

 

JerryT (OG VG guy) turned 400k on his VG back in January.... Original engine and tranny.

let's just say the nissan V6 is good enough that i'm taking my engine out (bent crank snout) and putting one in that has a confirmed 240k

 

205k and running like new! litlle oil around the valve covers but just like new

 

Nissan designed this and many of there engines to make 300K without reboring the cylinders due to the high nickle alloy content used in their production blocks. We (The USA) used this similar nickle alloy in our domestic racing blocks only, until recently....

 

non taken but i ain't the only one that owns a bimmer in here. but don't worry i won't be getting rid of mine at all. i still have to finish modding it but then again modding is a never ending thing for us.

So, I'm just going through the trouble of fixing all my leaks by replacing the oil pan gaskets, rear main seal, TQ converter seal, and axle seals. My '89 GXE only has 89K miles on it, but may be more worn out from sitting around than from mileage. If the surfaces in the crank area is orange color from dirty oil do you think that is symptomatic of a worn out engine? Is there some flush I can use to clean all that up and make it almost as good as new? I want mine to go for at least another 200K. Florida car, so NO RUST!!

 

the 89 SE i had was at 240k when I sold it and now is getting a few new parts before going back into a max and my 85 is at 184k and runs like almost new.

oh yea capedcadaver already said the engine with 240k wasn't paying attention who posted that, my bad

 

haha vern. tooooo slooooow.

anyhow i'm gonna start painting my spare IM and valvecovers and that nasty-ugly-rusty EGR valve assembly.... then get a water pump and belt tensioner and stuff b/c I already have a new tbelt to put on it. and then tuneup items, all new exhaust studs, front/rear/cam seals, paint as much other crap as i can get to, new thermostat, and swap in my rail of good injectors.

I was proud of that car, it made it around the country with no issues and would have made it again I'm sure of it, I'm glad it went to a good home.

how bad was the timing belt? do you still have the pics of my 85 loaded down?

 

i have pics of the 85 SOMEWHERE. where exactly, I don't know. Eh I would never drive the 89 again tho... the rear strut towers are about 2 speedbumps away from detaching from the body. Ya rly. i can literally stick my arm through a rust-hole and grab the coil spring from the inside of the car when i pull the seatback up

don't get me wrong it was cool... that's why i am stealing the SE springs/sways/struts/brakes/engine/maybe_sunroof and already took the tranny haha

 

oh I'm sure it would have dragged the rear around for awhile but yea she was a bit rusty. no worries on the pics just askin.
