Horn stopped? and brotherly war question.

So. I made the fun fun drive of SF to LA for XMAS with the family. good times had allround. temp went below minimum driving through grapevine... guess thats normal for the east coasters in winter though?

My horn stopped working... press button nothing... I read the Cruise Control is somehow connected with the horn (least I think I read when I was lurking) so it might be the horn itself? or the Horn relay?

any advice would be much helpful

also. could my 94 SE give my brothers 07 Altima a run for his money? :P apparently our cars have the same HP. but no doubt he has a much faster 0-60 than I do

well... yes, the CC and horn circuits do share some wiring. I'm guessing you mean to say that your cruise control works just fine? Anyhow, I guess I would start with checking the horn relay. Because I have never had an SRS steering wheel and therefore, don't know jack crap about it, and couldn't tell you where to start trying to mend the horn switch if it's at fault. All I can say for sure is that if the brown and white wire on the horn relay harness IS continuous to ground when you push the horn switch, then the horn switch works.

on an SRS equipped car, it uses a ribbon of wires wrapped up so that it always stays connected no matter how far the wheel is turned. Those wires do break over time, so if your only problems are the cruise buttons on the wheel and horn not working (should get an airbag light too) then it is probably that cable that has failed. The FSM calls it a spiral wound cable, while the aftermarket calls it a clock spring.

one time, I punched my steering wheel, breaking the horn
trip to the junk yard for a new horn button fixed it

then I would check the horn relay, horn fuse, and the the steering wheel itself.

I am not sure if youur brother's Altima would beat the Max. I am guessing it would. Newer Nissans use more aluminum and other lightweight materials all over, espcially in the body. They have advanced variable timing, more modern fuel delivery, ignition, and engine management systems and are able to reach higher rpms faster. Better transmissions, better gearing, less power loss in the drivetrain. If you decide to find out TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!

not too sure where you got the info for the altima engine, so:

and hp is not the only factor. any racer will tell you that.

i have doubts that a 14-5 year old car will beat a car that is less than 2. especially considering that the older car may not be at its peak performance.
not saying the max will lose, but I wouldn't be too sure.

I know for a fact that my VE can beat a 2.5 5-spd Alti, raced my friends, and he also got walked on by a late model dodge dakota.... granted, his is a 2005.

at the track of course.

I fixed it. took off the griill and some blockhead previous owner fixed it before (i guess?) and the wires were once cut... and they were just twisted back. soldered and heatshrunk. back in business

though 1 cable to going to 1 of the horns was also broken so only 1 tinny horn :P

my brother tells me he has 190HP as well.. probably not going to the track since we're not THAT competitive. it's all in good fun.
