Damn crank pulley

I just replaced my cam seals. In doing so I had trouble removing the crank pulley, so I used a 2 jaw puller and snapped the outer edge of the pulley off making it impossible to install the compressor belt. I bought a 3 jaw puller which helped me reach deeper and hold onto the thicker ring on the pulley and I got it off. Man was it stuck on there. I didn't like the fact such a large portion of the outer edge was missing thinking it would probably throw the pulley out of balance, so I took a reciprocating saw and cut the outer ring off. I installed it and it seems fine. Obviously I can't run my ac which is a pain.

A new stock pulley/balancer is big bucks and I can't seem to find a used one. I'm looking at underdrive pulleys now. Is it ok to run an UD pulley with a system? I don't want to have issues with charging. Are the ebay UD pulleys any good? Or should I go with an unorthodox racing pulley?

Junk yard? Or someone here parting the car as it is really rare that part breaks on its own.

Unorthodox doesn't make them anymore. Get one from ASP. I have one for my VE and Cmax03 has one on his VG along with several other members. Mine was $120 but I picked up in person since I live up the road from them.

I have a couple of used OEM crank pulleys sitting around the house; shoot me a PM if you'd like to pick one up on the cheap.

What I have (Not installed its extra) from ASPracing is a VG Oem size crank pulley for the guys who are into high powered sound system ( boat anchors as i like to call them). I personally have one of the last UR UDP that Custom Enterprise had in stock and got lucky 2 yrs ago! It's(ASPRacing pulley) lightweight T6061 Billet Aluminum and it just like Oem....pm me if yur interested...$150!

That pulley is really hard to get off. I had to blow $80.00 on a puller just for that dumb thing. It's the ribbed type that grips the 3 ribs, not the outer edge.

By the way Nitrous, how did you get those camshaft seals out? Mine were really hard to get out and I ended up damaging the camshaft I think - although I'm throwing that head in the garbage probably anyways, but still, the other side could have a nick in it too.

Yeah, it was a pain. When the outer lip broke, the puller and pieces of the pulley flew into my hand cutting and bruising two fingers.

I got the seals out with this...

It helped a lot but still used a small flathead to aid in the removal taking care not to damage the camshaft surface.

I then used this to install...

This tool worked perfectly.

Did you nick the camshaft at all right where the seal is. I nicked it slightly, and wondering if that will be enough to make the seal leak. It's tough to say if the nick is beyond the band that blocks the oil or not. Maybe I better replace that RH side just to be safe, it would be a royal pain to get it back together then have it leak.

Where did you buy those 2 tools in your photo by the way - are they online?

No nicks, was careful when removing. I also took some steel wool and cleaned up the camshaft end before installing the new seals.

I got the tools from toolsource.com.

Did you actually remove the camshafts by unscrewing the locate plate flange bolt? I want you to look at a photo if you can during the week, of something strange I found...if you saw something similar in yours.

Can you post a pic of where the nick is on the camshaft? That will matter greatly as to whether or not it will leak... Since you don't typically use the same spot as the first seal you can prolly get away with the nick, (you move the new seal either closer to you or further back since of the wear it makes in the area, and we are talking about a few millimeters)
