No that was str8 through, I didn't lift off the throttle at all, it just kinda jerked into second gear

when it blinks it means the transmission control unit has a code meaning one of the sensor's or solenoids is malfunctioned etc.

good luck finding a VE to get a tranny from. often times there are none at the JY near me, tho you're lucky it's a/t and not m/t, cuz i've only ever seen 1 VE5 at the JY near me. but i guess it's cheaper than getting it rebuilt. WORST CASE scenario you can use a 4th gen tranny and just swap the bellhousing from your VE tranny and use a non-LSD driverside axle (may be the same as a 4th gen axle, but not 100% sure). If you do that you might need to get the diff bearing preload adjusted by a tranny shop, but that's still cheaper than a full rebuild. [Aaron92se is running a VE auto tranny on a VQ engine so it will work in the reverse as well as long as you swap the bellhousing.]

Back with ma update Well I filled up this supposingly 18.1 gallon tank although I only got 15 gallons in their and it was above the "F", anyhow after I damm near empty out my gask tank it was reading 260 miles my calculation 260/15= 17.3 miles per gallon and I know thats not efficient at all, but I also notice that when I'm crusing at 70 the RPM is at about 3200, and that I believe is the problem(transmission failing)

i guess, cuz even if you had the wrong tire size, the relatioship between your tach and speedometer would remain the same. not that i know if you have a non-stock tire size anyhow.

That doesn't sound right to me. My max is within 75 MPH when I reach 2500 RPM and near or on 85 MPH when it's at 3000 RPM.

But I do get around 12-15 MPG most likely due to an exhaust leak and a bad O2 sensor (which I will fix next week). Don't know if running the car with a bad exhaust system would make a big difference.

EDIT: Just noticed that biggz has a VE engine while I have a VG. So my info won't be that helpful

hmm i guess a/t does rev lower doesn't it? I was thinking about 5th gear on my car. I remember that 45mph locked up in OD was 1600rpm on my automatic. VE might have a shorter final drive tho (on manual it's 3.65 VG and 3.83 VE, i think)

on my 90 maxx, i always keep the power/comfort switch in comfort mode( i want the best MPG possible). however ive noticed that when i start the car only the power light lights up for a second or two. my comfort light doesnt do this, and never turns on, even when its depressed. can anyone tell me if this means anything? thanks!

It's just the TCM initializing when the car starts up. When you put the key in the ON position and the P is lit for a couple of seconds and goes away, it shows that everyting regrading the TCU and transmission is ok. But if the P light were to blink constantly, then there's a problem (electrically, it will not tell you of a mechanical problem).

@ MyMaxWillNeverDie: Yea but it's normal for when you start the car for only the "P" to light up.

Yeah, I run my car with an exhaust leak too. Runs with good power, but with such loudness accelerating to reach a certain speed. Am I right or wrong?

Mine gets 20mpg AT BEST, on HIGHWAY too. Its the SE Version btw. ((White speedo gauges that go up to 145mph))

This has the VE30DE engine right?
or am I wrong?

Yea you have the VE. (EDIT: I saw your craigslist and from the outside it looks like you have a GXE. Are you sure you have an SE?)

Well right after changing the O2 weeks after my last post the mileage went up to around 21 MPG on my last trip. I still got the exhaust leak which I haven't fixed yet cause the rear manifold is warped.

My car is kinda loud on accel. I'm assuming that's an exhaust leak. Would a leak cause mpg to decrease? My last car (92 escort wagon) was much more simple compared to this, so I'm trying to educate myself. Does anyone know if the O2 sensor could cause problems with MPG, but not be bad enough to throw a code?
