Fog light modification

I would like to go HID on my fogs at 3k when I mount my newly acquired fogs. Has anyone done this and is it plug and play or are there modifications to the housing that will need to happen?

Any advice or pictures would be appreciated, I didn't see anything in the archives.

Well i dont have any pics, but i did hack up the back of the housing and silicone it. The base for the hid bulb made it impossible to fit in the housing because of its lenght. So, all i did was cut/dremel the back right before the mounting part and sealed it up. Good Luck!

Are they OEM foglights that you acquired? You more than likely will have to fab something up. You'll definitely need a spot to mount the ballast and make sure its a dry spot too.

They are, I actually bought some on Ebay as well that were new but turned out to be smaller than what is on there already. I would prefer to keep it OEM so I will probably just clean up the ones I just bought off of here.

What size bulb did you go with? Looks like H3 would be proper but haven't gotten that far yet.

H3 should work fine with stockers... I have similar to stock fog lights and they use H3 bulbs.

yea the h3 hid bulb will have a long base where you have to cut the rear hosuing, and for the ballast i mounted it in the cornering lights. These HID fogs makes driving at night even better and has no glare because of the shield.

i went with 5k because i live in the city and it matched my corners very well.
Plus i can drive with only my fogs at night, which i dont do but its possible because of its brightness.

I'm thinking of going 3000k (keep in mind guys the K is not for "thousands" is for degrees Kalvin) when I add fogs to my 95, I've been real lazy but I think the 3000k would look good considering I have 4300k headlights and a dark blue car. I didnt care for the yellow at first but it grew on me after seeing the IS300, QX4, and even the ES300 but not really. All yellow lights are a different story, thats just plain rice.

I agree, my new HIDs are 4300k and I have clear corners but thought that the 3000k in the fogs would add some WOW factor.

Mine is white right now but will probably be changing colors soon.

Did you leave the reflector part inside the glass housing?

yes everything was left how it was, no modification to installing the bulb in the glass part, but u might have to squeeze the metal retainer for the bulb to be securly tight.

Just as you mentioned it, the H3 bulb fit perfectly. I ended up cliping the metal retainer in half so it would go around the base as it is a little wider and taped it back together. I will post pictures later.

well a picture would help cause we can't really tell because it is not stock and the bulb might be too long.
