94 Maxima Suspension
Hi... newbie here!
I'm hoping I can find some info for my mom's car. Yes, I read the suspension FAQ, but I think that may be geared to someone like me, rather than my mom.
Her 94 GXE has always had some serious bounciness to it and it's not really stable on the freeway. It's not simply just blown shocks, because my dad has replaced them with OEM or OEM-comparable shocks.
Now that she has a longer commute to work, I'd like to improve her suspension with out the harsh ride that I have in my Eclipse. Can any of you recommend a spring/shock combo that will make the car be more stable and handle better? Please keep in mind that cheaper is better and that the main driver is a 50 y.o. woman who likes somewhat "sporty" handling, but hates slammed cars.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Her stock springs are the best for a soft ride, but it you want to improve it a little, without her complaining about harshness, you might want to post a want ad in the sale forum for some 3rd gen SE stock springs. Then buy some Tokico dampers (www.shox.com) to back them up. You will have a "sportier" ride, but not something your mom is likely to complain about.
Good luck!

I have a 90 GXE with stock springs, stock (original) rear struts and KYB-GR2 struts up front. It is perfectly stable to speeds way higher than your mother probably drives. If the struts are good, than something else is wrong with the car. Either the tires are out of balance or have the wrong air pressure, bushings are worn, something elses is wrong with the suspension (broken spring?). A GXE in good shape doesn't bounce, or is unstable at any semi-normal highway speed.

I have tokico struts, eibach pro-kit, and a front strut tower bar. The ride isn't too harsh and it is very stable and high speeds. I can cruise at 100-105 mph with no problem or floating. (I am running 225/60VR15 AVS Db. For a ten year old sedan, that bad girl handles!
