90 GXE Shuddering upon light acceleration

My 90 GXE has approx. 116k on it. I say approx. because it also has one of those wacky odometers on it and has actually rotated backwards a few miles.
Anyway, my problem is while driving and accelerating lightly, the car sometimes shudders. If I take my foot off of the gas and then accelerate again it seems fine. Also, if it shudders and I press the gas harder it will clear up.
I don't know if it is something in the trans itself (torque converter) or some type of electronic problem.
Has anyone also had this type of problem? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the TPS?
One more thing to check is the throttle position sensor. They are often found out of adjustment, or need to be replaced. They are easy to adjust, just loosen the front screw and rotate it. Not sure what the correct voltage should be on a Maxima when you test it, so refer to a service manual for that. Good luck.

both are indicators of a dead/dying O2 sensor.
