Stalls out.! help
Stalls out.! help
Ok i got a 94 maxima gxe, it has a 4 speed auto. Anyways about 5 months ago i started the car, it was doing fine. But after it warmed up, i put it in reverse and it shut off. I started it and put it in reverse again it also stalled out. In drive it did the same thing, any ideas on what it can be? This has never happened to it before.
is it a clean stall (as if you shut off the key) or does it fight to stay alive before stalling? Does putting it in "N" allow it to stay running?
Also might want to remove the IACV and check for deposits that might cause it to not function properly. Check that this device is plugged in as well.

a few more things...
1) When you are in Park, if you turn on the A/C does the idle dip and recover, or dip and stay low (or even stall)?
2) does it jerk the car when it stalls, as if you had a stickshift car and dumped the clutch?
3) If you can get the front of the car up on jackstands, does putting it in gear still cause it to stall, or does it stay running and just make the wheels spin in the air?

if safe to do so, have you tried putting it in gear with the handbrake down and you not touching the brake pedal? So the car is free to move (if possible) when it goes into gear? You can put the car in neutral then release the footbrake, then the handbrake, then pick R or D (whichever is safer depending where/how you're parked.
If you do this, keep your hand on the shifter and your foot over the brake pedal in case you need to quickly go back to neutral and slam on the brakes so the car doesn't become a runaway. I've driven a stickshift vehicle with a failed clutch-release system, and if it's a torquey engine in 1st gear or Reverse it can be very hard to stop unless you shut off the engine or throw it in neutral (which you can do on an automatic because the shift mechanisms don't bind under load like they do in a manual)

Well i cleaned the IACV, it did have a lot of deposits and it and it stalled out again. I let it warm up to operating temperature and all of a sudden it works perfectly now! i drove it and it didn't shut off on me.
the past couple of attempts i've been letting it get to operating temp, it still stalled. But like i said i cleaned th IVAC since it did have alot of deposits and apparently it works like a charm now.
