What type of muffler to get?

I was wondering what type of muffler i would buy to replace my stock one which is like literally falling apart. I just want like one that looks stock and is not real loud. A little sound is ok but not really loud. I looked on autozone and ebay and i see like Walker or thrush or flowmaster. I know flowmaster would be the best as far as quality but would it add alot of sound. If i did want sound i would want like a lower rumble type sound not a really loud race car type sound.

OK thanks, Well does just adding a flowmaster muffler have any performance gains or is it just mainly the sound and look? I just wish i could actually hear one on my car before i bought it..

pretty much just sound and look, only way to get performance gains from an exhaust is to do a full mandrel system

Chrome is right. If your wanting to gain a little you'd have to go with a mandrel bent custom exhaust and a larger pipe and add a ypipe etc. If you just want a stock replacement go with walker. I have trush on my custom exhaust and it does sound nice with a nice low tone and they are actually just as good of quality if not better than the competitors like flowmaster etc. The metal is good and thick and doesn't rot as quickly as some others and lasts a little longer. Thrush has actually been around longer too. They were fairly popular back in the early era with the muscle cars. It's hard to say what any of them would sound like on a stock exhaust because most people who have any of those muflers other than an oem type like walker generally have them on an upgraded exhaust so even if you were to hear it on one car doesnt mean it would sound that way on yours with it being stock but id imagine thrush or flowmaster etc. may not be overly loud on yours if you still have your stock pipe with resinator. It's a gamble i suppose unless you go walker then you know what your getting into sound wise.

Alright thanks guys. I don't wanna spend over $100 on something if there is no performance benefit so i think ill just go with the cheaper option.

i did the full mandrel system on my 3rd gen and a Ypipe, sounded good and felt a bit of a difference but if you only want to go $100ish a cheaper muffler is best

Walker is generally a good oem replacement at an affordable price.

Buy some 3" tips and paint itwith some 1200*F paint and you're good to good the support hooks are alll in the same location iirc! I used a $125 tubing kit from MES and invested into Magaflow mufflers and it's an awesome setup from under $350...but i realise your budget....
