Vibration ?

Hi Guys!...still driving my 94 GXE. Just had the car tuned with plugs and 'NEW' Napa distributor. Runs great...Tech said 15 degrees on the timing. New question... today when parking the car...and turning the steering wheel all the way ... heavy vibration...However when when steering is straight... the car idles smoothly? Only when the wheel is turned to the full lock
position at idle when parking... What is it?...motor mounts...otherwise...car steers straight ...and normal...only noticed when wheel turned full lock in the process of parking? Thanks in advance...Starrider

full lock is tough on the pump, probably just the pump going nuts. avoid full lock

Power steering fluid ok... seems to vibrate at 500 rpm...700 and above no vibration? So if i turn on the ac...engine drops down to 500 rpm while not moving... at idle it vibrates... if ac is on and car rpm 700 and above ....no vibration?

alot of my older vehicles vibrate at low RPM under load too, you can try checking vacuum lines as well for leaks

As I said in your other post, the idle speed should be 700 - 750 rpm. But the car's computer, the ECU, should increase the idle when you turn the steering wheel at idle. There is a pressure sensing switch for the power steering pump. When you turn the steering wheel, the oil pressure increases and this switch sends a signal back to the ECU.

The switch is by the windshield wiper motor on the passenger side. see page 15 in the manual - http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/1994/EC.pdf

Maybe the problem is that the idle speed is just too low. When you get the idle speed set correctly, turning the steering wheel should not make the idle speed drop if the pressure switch is working OK.

See page 31 in that same link for engine idle speed and adjustment.

Update on my GXE...OK...the mechanic tried to raise the idle rpm however the rpm would
just come back down to 500. So this is what i was told...that the car needs a
idle control valve.

As far as steering...idle speed drops to 500 rpm whether wheel is turned or not.

I called Napa...the guy say 400 to 700 dollars depending whether a twin cam or a
single cam.

If you read the idle speed adjustment on page 31 in the link, it says to turn the screw on the ECU fully clockwise before turning the IACC screw. If you don't, the ECU will not "learn" the new setting.

Your GXE has the VG engine, which is a SOHC (single overhead cam) engine.

Update...took the car to a private shop...they were able to get the car to run somewhat better...still vibrates at 500 rpm...i am able to drive the car.
When i have to come to a stop...i shift the car from drive into neutral...thus keeping the load off the engine...and the rpm stays around 700. When starting out ... shift back to drive...kinda like a clutch action.

I think we'll probably end up looking for a replacement idle control valve...The Napa guy said he could only find one for the SE model... a complete assembly for 700 dollars. Couldn't tell me if it would work for a GXE 94. Does anyone have a
part number?

I had 2 idle air control valves but gone now. You generally shouldn't have to but you can adjust the set screw on the valve if needed. Also have you tried taking it apart and cleaning any carbon build up in it? By the sounds of your symptoms though I'd be looking over or replacing the old dried out vacume lines. It can sometimes be tough to visibly see hairline cracks but if they're all original there could definitely be some vacume leaks. You can get a kit of different sized silicone vacume lines which won't dry rot and are reasonably inexpensive and just cut to length.
