Speedometer stopped working.

So my speedometer stopped working last week. Is there just a sensor that i change or do i change the actual cluster and where would the sensor be located? Its a 91 gxe automatic.

The speed sensor should be the issue you can test it to ensure it is working. I believe it's output is AC voltage...

check fuses first, then see if the speed sensor outputs signal. if not, either cluster or wiring issue likely

Thanks. I dont think it's a fuse cause it will randomly start working for a few seconds and then drop back Down to zero. Is the speed sensor on the transmission?

It might be a cold joint inside the cluster. Can you try to swap clusters if you have a spare one? I know it is a long shot but some of us did stockpile parts. If you do not, then you can just try to visually inspect the cluster.

Okay, im gonna hit the junk yards to see if i can get a cluster first before i try to mess with the sensor since i think it is hard to get to if its the one i was looking at earlier.
