The VE30DE had variable valve timing, the VTC (valve timing control I think) is the mechanism that varies the valve timing. When they go bad, it's $$$. If it isn't that, then it sounds like your AAC valve, it controls your idle and allows more air into the engine to make power as compensation for when you turn (use power steering), brake, etc. When these go out, your car will buck violently, miss, stall, die, refuse to start and have a generally erratic idle. They aren't hard to replace. I haven't done it on a Nissan, but I've done it on other vehicles.

I've never replaced a Nissan AAC, but when I replaced the one on my dad's Chevy truck (Chevy calls them Idle Air Controllers), it was $48.95 at NAPA and located on the throttle body under the air cleaner (airbox). A search should turn up something as to it's location. The Chevrolet IAC was a cylindrical, electric, stepper-motor with four wires on it and the end was threaded into the throttle-body. Had to use a 1 inch wrench to get it out.

Well... what exactly is the part that goes bad. I'm thinking of modding the he|| out of a VE and i was going to get all custom internals and i was curious what part it was that screwed up.
